Facebook expands Instagram Reels to India

Instagram said on Wednesday it is rolling out Reels– a feature that permits users to develop short-form videos (up to 15 seconds long) set to music or other audio– to a”broad” user base in India. “Videos make up over a third of all posts in India,” stated Ajit Mohan, the head of Facebook India, in a call with reporters Wednesday. Mohan said he was enthusiastic that Instagram Reels would make it possible for several content developers in India to acquire followers internationally.

Instagram had about 165 million regular monthly active users last month, up from 110 million in June last year, according to mobile insights firm App Annie, data of which a market executive shared with TechCrunch. Mohan stated he was confident that Instagram Reels would make it possible for a number of content creators in India to gain followers worldwide. Reels videos will appear on Instagram’s Explore tab, enabling users to reach a more comprehensive audience than their own following base.
